in Kyoto Machiya
KYOTO is one of the most desirable city for cultural exploration in the world. It is because of Kyoto’s beautiful life style developed by its own city structure.
KEIKO offers an local experience staying at KYOTO MACHIYA, more than 100 year-old wooden townhouse located at the heart of Kyoto.
To create a comfort in urban living, Kyoto machiya is designed by containing a Tsuboniwa(small garden) at the back of the narrow building. The structure allows residents to feel ease by having a space with urban vigor as well as embracing a little nature intimately.
Guesthouse Keiko is a Machiya, an original Kyoto style wooden house. (Sukiya style building)
It remains largely unchanged since the Taisho period, providing a unique and highly valuable cultural experience. You can see beautiful and distinctive features in many parts of the house, such as beautiful plaster work on the walls done by skilled craftsmen, wooden-latticed windows (Koshi), wooden fittings, and sliding doors with ornamental finger-pulls etc.
We strive to provide an authentic Kyoto lifestyle experience for our guests.
We offer a Washoku(Japanese Food) Workshop for guests and visitors on request. Please contact us via email or send message.
